Family Constellation therapy is a deep therapeutic process in which we find the‘right’ place again in our family system. This has a direct impact on regaining our strength and relaxing into life. It also brings healing into the dynamics of our larger family to which we were born.

According to Bert Hellinger, founder of Family Constellation Therapy, there are certain basic laws that need to be respected for love to flow in our family. There is the respect for order of people who came before us into the family, the need to include all family members regardless of their doing or liking, and the need for balance of giving and receiving.

 

Regardless of whether we live physically close to our family or not, our family roots and family dynamics play a critical role in how we move through and experience life. Even occurrences in earlier generations may influence our reality today. When the natural order is not respected or when events occur like early deaths or other significant events they can affect the family dynamics and echo in our lives … and this even if these events happened to other family members. They often shape the way we feel and act in our lives without being consciously aware of the source of our entanglement.

After a brief exploration of the clients’ past in which we look at significant events that shaped the family, the client chooses people from the group to represent ‘relevant’ family members. The clients then ‘places’ them intuitively inside the room and thereby creates a ‘snapshot’ of the family dynamics.

 

The actual physical placement of people transfers a ‘knowledge’ to them which allows them to sense what people in the family sense. From this moment onwards, the client sits down and simply watches the movements and changes in the ‘representatives’. This is indeed a mysterious process, which can only be understood by actually experiencing it. What can be seen is that there is a natural connection between all of us and this enables us to also sense other people’s reality.

 

The representatives start ‘knowing’ things and with it we jointly begin working on the issue the client has brought with him. It is a fascinating process and revealing time after time to see how precise the experiences of the representatives match the reality of the clients’ family. Once the certain information is available, we start reshaping the family system by making place for the ‘appropriate’ interaction between family members.
